The Réaumur and Rømer scales are both historical temperature scales, offering intriguing glimpses into early scientific thought. Developed by René Antoine Ferchault de Raumur in 1730, the Réaumur scale is a descending scale where the freezing point of water is 0R and the boiling point of water is 80°R.
Created by Danish astronomer Ole Rømer in 1701, the Rømer scale is also a descending scale. However, it's defined by the freezing point of brine (a salt-water solution) as 0°Rø and the boiling point of water as 60°Rø.
